Alec Laughlin has also served as President and CEO of the nonprofit arts organization Citizens Artist Collective since June, 2012. In April, 2013, Eponymous Atelier published "Citizens Warehouse". An award recipient of "Southwest Books of the Year 2013," by the Tucson Public Library and Tucson Historic Preservation Society, EA designed, edited and published the book with the financial help of contributors on Indiegogo.
The Warehouse Arts District in downtown Tucson is an eclectic, thriving and growing community. Citizens Warehouse, a cornerstone to this community, is home to some twenty-five artists of varied mediums and disciplines. Presented here is a beautiful art book showcasing select works from the artists in the building, as well as stories exploring the history of Citizens Warehouse and the Historic Warehouse Arts District in Tucson. Featuring a wonderful foreword by Julie Sasse, Chief Curator and Curator of Modern and Contemporary Art, Tucson Museum of Art.
This publication was made possible in part through an initiative of the Arts Foundation for Tucson and Southern Arizona (formerly Tucson Pima Arts Council), in partnership with the Warehouse Arts Management Organization (WAMO), sponsored by a National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) Our Town grant.
"Any day goes better with art. In Citizens Warehouse, named for the once-abandoned building in Tucson where they now have studios, we have a couple dozen accomplished artists adding zest to our day. Nick Georgiou shows us his fascinating newsprint sculptures, Hannah Nance Partlow displays her resolute posters and installations, Dirk Arnold adds authentic architectural miniatures, Troy Neiman presents his found-metal sculptures and ceramics, and Christina Cárdenas wakes us up with Latina-themed gouache on wood. This delightful sampler reminds us that original studio-made art belongs in our homes, businesses, and public spaces. Every page grabs our attention. A limited edition signed by all the artists is available."
